ACTIVITIES OF THE 2017 FESTA DO BOTELO PROGRAMME

The XVII Festa do Botelo will be held in O Barco on January 21, 2017. There is a series of activities before and after that date dedicated to the promotion of this event, which in 2014 was declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of Galicia.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 15

• BROADCAST of the Radio Galega program Come e Fala

Broadcast day: Sunday, 1:00-2:00 p.m.

The Come e Fala program, winner of the 2010 Alvaro Cunqueiro National Gastronomic Journalism Award, tries to bring us a little closer to Galicia’s gastronomy, oenology, products and producers, and chefs. Hosted by Xosé Manuel García, this is the only program on Radio Galega, and on the Spanish radio scene, dedicated to the promotion of Galician gastronomy.

Companies that collaborate with the O Barco City Council: Adega Roandi, Embutidos García Marcos, Mantesil, Ruta del Vino de Valdeorras.

DAY of the XVII Festa do Botelo

• Food Fair

All day Saturday and Sunday in the area of the PLAZA ANDRÉS DE PRADA.  There will be several stalls in a large tent where you can buy different gastronomic products such as honey, bicas (cakes), botelos, cured meats, etc.

Fair hours:

-Saturday: 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

-Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

• Opening ceremony and honorary mention

Location: O Barco Casa de Cultura (Lauro Olmo Theatre)

Time of the event: 12:30 p.m.

• Botelo sampling

Location: Calabagueiros Pavilion

Time: 2:30 p.m.

About 1300 people will sample the botelo with potatoes and vegetables, accompanied by mencía wine. This year the wine will be from the Roandi winery (Éntoma) and there will be 755 kilos of botelo to eat.

At the same time, you can order botelo in the town’s restaurants, at the price charged by each establishment.

• Botelo photo call

At the entrance to the pavilion, where the Photocall do Botelo will be located, you will be able to get your photo taken and take it home as a souvenir.

Hours: 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

• AFTERNOON BOTELO CELEBRATION
• Orchestra in the tent of the TVG Program Aquí Galicia. Live broadcast.

Location: Plaza Andrés de Prada

Broadcast start time: 4:00 p.m.

The TVG program Aquí Galicia will broadcast this show live for more than two hours, presented by Lucía Rodríguez, Juan Fuentes and Bernardo Montaña. Audiences will get to know a little more about O Barco through reports about its gastronomy and its tourist attractions. Program attendees will also enjoy live music.

• II FOLIADA Tavern Songs

In the afternoon/evening, six musical groups will play in 12 different venues downtown in the town of O Barco. These groups will also be in attendance during the botelo lunch in the Calabagueiros Pavilion.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 22

• Show “Menu da Noite” with Carlos Blanco and Luís Davila

Location: Lauro Olmo Theatre

Time: 7 p.m.

Price: €10

Number of tickets: 250

Ticket sales: Ton y Son music store and an hour beforehand at the box office of the Lauro Olmo Theatre.

BOTELO IN THE RESTAURANTS AND THE PINCHOS ROUTE

Town restaurants and bars will offer botelo on their menus that weekend for all those who want to order it there. In the brochure O Barco Vai de Pinchos (and also in the Pinchos Route section of the website www.festadobotelo.es) you can see the places where you can order botelo both in small plates and for meals.

PROMOTIONAL MATERIAL AND COMMUNICATION ACTIONS

Poster

The well-known cartoonist Luís Davila, “O bichero”, created a poster for the Festa do Botelo 2016 and this year the poster is being used again because he is officially opening the festival. The same illustration, with slight changes, appears on the posters and in the promotion on social media. The drawing is in the style of the cartoons that he publishes daily in the Faro de Vigo.

T-shirts and bottles of wine for sale in the Calabagueiros Pavilion

White T-shirts with an illustration by Luís Davila. They will be offered for sale on the day of the Festa do Botelo in the Calabagueiros Pavilion itself and also during the opening ceremony at the O Barco Casa de la Cultura.

Price: €7 / t-shirt

Diners will have a discount of €2 / t-shirt if they present their receipt when making the purchase.

This year there will also be bottles of wine on sale with the label of this year’s botelo poster. It will be the same wine as the one served during the meal.
