The Department of Culture and Education of the Barco City Council presented yesterday the program of activities for the XVI FESTA DO BOTELO that will be held on January 23 in the town of Barco. This product consisting of filling the stomach of the pig with composted ribs and later smoked, which is consumed cooked, has been protected as a Protected Geographical Indication since 2009. In 2014 the Botelo do Barco Festival was declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Galicia.

This new edition is loaded with novelties in which the aim is to make the bottle known and expand the gastronomic party beyond the mere tasting of the product. The new edition will have a series of activities prior to the day of the party: a gastronomic meeting of bloggers and journalists, a workshop for making skewers and bottle dishes and pairing them with wines aimed at hoteliers in the town, as well as the opening of this website and social networks. In addition, the party has the designs on the poster and t-shirts, another of the novelties of this edition, by the cartoonist Luis Davila “O bichero”.

On the actual day of the party, January 23, there will also be news such as the launch of a food fair on the Paseo do Malecón and the act of reading the proclamation that will take place this year at the Lauro Olmo do Barco Theatre. In addition, the TVG program “Aquí Galicia” will broadcast its magazine program live on Saturday the 23rd in the afternoon.

The Councilor for Culture, Margarida Pizcueta, explained yesterday, January 11, that this year the party has three objectives: “one fun, another to spread the product, the Barco and the region and a third that will be training aimed at hoteliers so they can learn how to make pinchos related to the bottle”.
